The Radio City Music Hall is still a music hall of course, and will hopefully continue to be. this is a landmark because it is important to the citizens, within the neighborhood, and people from all over the world come here to view the performances.

The Radio City Music Hall is a great place to take the family, friends, and go on a date. It's beautiful design sets the tone, a rush of excitement comes over you no matter what age you are. It's extravagant! It kind of sets you up for the tone of the performance you are about to see.

HISTORY and more

    The Radio City Music Hall opened on DECEMBER 27, 1932. It is located in Manhattan very close to the Rockefeller Center. It was designed by Edward Durell Stone, Donald Deskey, and Raymond Hood. 

Donald Deskey wasn't the most popular interior designer to enter the competition for design of the Music Hall's interior spaces. He designed more than thirty separate spaces, including eight lounges and smoking rooms.  "He made art apart of the design, engaging fine artists to create murals, wall coverings and sculpture; textile designers to develop draperies and carpets; craftsmen to make ceramics, wood panels and chandeliers."-The source is Radio City Music Hall

    Deskey himself designed furniture and carpets. "He used a brilliant combination of precious materials including marble and gold foil, and industrial materials including Bakelite,  aluminum and cork.

  The strength of his achievement is reflected in how well the theatre has maintained its character over time. "It is a remarkable design and still has the power to take the breath away."
